Windsurf cannot sign in, so it needs a [token](/brain/docs/install/mcp#auth).
Get one first.

## 1 · Open the config

In the Cascade panel click the **MCPs** icon (top right), then **View raw
config**.

## 2 · Add the server

Paste this into the file, with your token, and save:

## 3 · Refresh

Click **Refresh**. **brain** appears with its tools on.

## 4 · Verify

Ask for a read-only call: `kb_overview` returns your workspace's knowledge
summary.

## Troubleshooting

**The server does not appear after saving the file.** Click **Refresh** on the
MCP Servers panel; Windsurf only re-reads `mcp_config.json` on refresh. The field
must be `serverUrl`.

**"401" or "Unauthorized" with a token.** Check the header is exactly
`Authorization: Bearer <your-token>`, and that the token has not been revoked on
[Profile → MCP Tokens](https://brain.levirge.com/profile).

**I connected, but there are no Brain tools.** Clients read the tool list once,
when they connect. Quit and reopen the app so it reconnects.
